Google says “look to your friends” for results.

When I wrote about the “Live Web” being integrated with search results the excitement was that Google was now able to serve up Twitter, Facebook and News articles in real-time as part of your search results – sort the same as a stock ticker would as trades are made. This Live Web offering was captivating because you were watching other people’s opinions pop up before your eyes as they wrote them. But Social Search is far more important because the contributions are from peers or services you know and because you control who is in and out this enhancement has so many legs to it. [...]

Brittany Murphy, Google Results and the Live Web

Waking up this morning I heard the news about Brittany Murphy’s passing so I went and “googled” it and sure enough the search confirmed the story. But as I scanned through the numerous results I saw a new window embedded in the page I had not noticed before which was continuously scrolling with updates. The Brittany Murphy story was breaking before my eyes via a “dynamic stream” of real-time content from such sites as Facebook, MySpace, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Identi.ca and of course Twitter. Should the Internet be pay per view?

One of the points that caught my attention was when the discussion turned to the talk of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation looking into how they charge for content on the web…not just to the consumer but also to the news aggregators such as Google & Yahoo. This caught my interest because other than publications like the Wall Street Journal most newspaper publications on the internet are free. Subscription models, unless attached to a specialty publication such as the Wall Street Journal, general don’t tend to work and we have seen numerous attempts at it in the past. [...]

Everyone is having a crack at Outlook.

News just out is that Google Apps is now an Exchange-replacement and users can even keep Outlook…

It appears that on Tuesday Google announced a new feature of Google Apps for its enterprise customers that allows users to sync their mail, calendar, and contacts with Microsoft Outlook.
