Unboxing W7 (not Windows 7)

I have just recently come back from a visit to Japan and there is two things they certainly love – Brand Names and Food. The Windows 7 Whopper costs ¥777 which is about $9 Australian (currently its about ¥85 to the AUD), is almost 15cm high and contains about 750 grams of beef. [...]

“Giant Octopus captures Twitter” and proves why it is more than just babble

First I thought was that somebody had found or caught a Giant Octopus and I was about to go experience a National Geographic moment (…I love doco’s…and spent part of last night watching one about a colossal squid). What I found however was the topic that was trending was a film called “Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus” which was premiering on SyFy cable network in the US their time tonight. [...]

Take’m for a 2nd spin…help the environment

Again the adventure in all this is not knowing what you want before walking into the store and then walking away with a win at half the price – but also I love the thought that these CDs are getting a 2nd chance at life and avoiding become part of the land fill problem we have to address. So cheap and environmentally friendly – what more could you ask for on a Saturday?? [...]

It’s “Free” when Irony becomes Plagiarism…

I started to write this entry only because I had heard that Chris Anderson, editor in chief of Wired magazine and author of the 2006 bestseller “The Long Tail”, had not only released a new book called “Free” but had released it on Scribd.com for free so we could all read it. To my shock and horror I was told by Scribd.com that in fact “Free” was not – well, not in Australia anyway because “…this content is geographically restricted” and “Due to our agreements with our publishing partners, the document you requested is only available to users located in the United States.” [...]

Vale Robert McNamara

While this news will most probably pass through the press without that much fuss (certainly in comparison to the current Michael Jackson circus) I am saddened by the news that I have just learnt of Robert McNamara’s passing.

I am not old enough to remember McNamra BUT I do know about him due to a [...]

Swan / Rudd have only words while the economy sits with the banks

Kevin Rudd by Bill Leak

Regardless of whether the Commonwealth Banks (CBA) decision to increase their variable home loan rate by 10 basis points to 5.74 per cent (you can read all about it here in a presentation released to the ASX last week) is right or wrong, the issue this highlights is [...]

Will WWW go free-to-air (almost) or will it just be good for competition

I have been using the Livestation service for the past few weeks on my home PC and came across an article this morning about the ABC Playback service which will include a 24/7 “continuous news centre”. It got me thinking again about one of the great debates – will the Internet make TV redundant? [...]
